Staff Training is very important at UVES!

Our training department strives for excellence with each patient care provider.
The following is the minimum training required to provide patient care:

UVES personnel must maintain an AHA CPR for Helathcare Providers Card. UVES personnel who provide treatment and transport must be at least a NYS EMT-D (Emergency Medical Technician - Defibrillator) and have completed an in-house training program prior to being granted "Crew Chief" status.

We strive to staff our ambulances to provide the highest level of prehospital care, in the form of an AEMT-CC (Critical Care Technician) or AEMT-P. (Paramedic)

Each Medic is trained and able to perform various advanced procedures; including IV's, administering medications, the use of advanced airways, (endotracheal intubation) EKG monitoring/interpretation. (including 12-Lead EKG's)

All medics operating in Broome County do so under strict medical oversight, via Susquehana Regional Medical Emergency Services. (SREMS) All treatment modalities are outlined within our Regional Protocols and categorized into either Standing Orders or Med Control Options. Standing Orders are the treatment plans medics follow without first receiving specific instructions from an authorized Medical Control Physician. Med Control Options are orders the medic needs to specifically request prior to initiating. In general, Medics within SREMS have a high degree of autonomy.
